Former England boss Fabio Capello signed a contract on Thursday as manager of the Russian national football team with a mission to pass the team to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Italian men's 66-year-old signed a deal in Moscow with the Russian Football Association for an undisclosed amount of contract value. News reports said Capello was negotiating a contract duration of two years with possibility of extension.

Capello will select teams in the collapsed condition after a disappointing Euro 2012 when Russia defaulted on its progress from the group stage and mired in a scandal involving the captain Andrei Arshavin.

The call to remove the armband midfielder echoed across the media this summer, after Arshavin record as saying he saw no reason to apologize for the Euro and the performance showed that the players were happy to be home.

Capello has strong words for the behavior of Arshavin.

"I'll talk to him and asked where the lack of love for the fans, this lack of love for the Russian uniform," said Capello.

He also signaled a new approach involving a prospective international players for national teams that could have Russian citizenship in order to assist the rejuvenation of the team veteran.

"We must not forget that teams like Germany and Italy have the players with dual nationality," said Capello.

"Spain has the players like it too, and they are the champions," he said.
